After much speculation, this offseason, Jimmy Garoppolo has officially passed his physical with the Raiders.
The Las Vegas Raiders’ quarterback underwent his team physical this weekend, after having offseason surgery on his foot. Unable to do so earlier in the summer, Garoppolo passed his latest medical exam, clearing the way for him to begin training camp with the rest of his new team Wednesday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the news Sunday, with local media confirming thereafter.
Raiders’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who spent his off-season recovering from a foot injury, did in fact pass his training camp physical and is expected to begin training camp with his teammates, per league source. Raiders are not placing him on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Jimmy Garoppolo inked a three-year, $72.75 million deal with the Silver & Black this offseason. Undergoing foot surgery in March, Las Vegas included a clause in the contract that included him passing a physical on his foot. If he didn’t pass, the deal could be voided in its entirety. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case for both parties, who will see their new QB debut on the practice field Wednesday.
While much of the football world was worried Garoppolo wouldn’t pass the physical, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels didn’t sweat the long wait over the summer.
“I have no anxiety,” McDaniels said in a press conference in June. “You guys may have anxiety. I have no anxiety. I’m not going to put a timeline or a day on anything. I don’t worry about the things I can’t control…I have very good information that tells me that we’re going to be fine.”
Jimmy G spent the last five and a half seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, taking them to a Super Bowl appearance in 2020. Garoppolo threw for 13,599 passing yards, 82 touchdowns and 42 interceptions. He holds a 38-17 record as the 49ers’ starter. The QB had initial foot surgery after suffering a season-ending fracture in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins last season.
The Raiders will reunite the former New England Patriot with McDaniels, hoping to take Las Vegas back to the playoffs.
