Despite holding the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, the Las Vegas Raiders have been doing their homework on the top quarterback prospects. This includes potential No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young.

Reports surfaced Wednesday and Thursday that the Silver & Black would be bringing Young in for a top-30 visit this week, confirming the news on the latter date. Previously hosting QBs C.J. Stroud, Will Levis and Anthony Richardson, Young is now the latest top prospect to visit Las Vegas.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first with the report.

While some may speculate why the Raiders are talking with Bryce Young, given the likeliness he gets drafted Top-3 overall. But to Rapoport and others, it’s merely Las Vegas doing their homework on all potential outcomes.

“If he has not taken on, if the Panthers go with C.J. Stroud or potentially other, then presumably Bryce, would go two. So why are the Las Vegas Raiders meeting with him? Well, one would think that potentially they would consider a trade up to two,” Rapoport explained. “I know there was some people who thought they might end up trading up to one before the Carolina Panthers made that big move with the Chicago Bears.

“Either way, one thing we know about the draft is you really have no idea. And so, it is better to just do your homework and be ready for every crazy situation rather than not. I’d say that’s probably the category that the Raiders are in right now.”

A perennial top draft pick for the last couple of years, Young was electric at Alabama, holding a 24-3 record as the starter for the Crimson Tide. He left college with 8,356 passing yards, 87 total TDs and 12 INTs.
