In 2024, an MLB team is playing in Sacramento.
No, it’s not the Oakland A’s… at least not yet. The San Francisco Giants will travel north along I-80 to face their Triple-A Affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, in an exhibition game at Sutter Health Park. The game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 24, marking the beginning of the River Cats’ 25th season.
The last time the Giants faced off against the River Cats was in 2018. This will be only the third time to two teams face off.
“We look forward to kicking off our 25th season by welcoming the San Francisco Giants back to Sacramento,” River Cats President and COO Chip Maxson said in a press release. “The fan response to the Exhibition Games in 2016 and 2018 was truly amazing and we look forward to the energy and enthusiasm of a capacity crowd at Sutter Health Park on March 24.”
Fans of the Giants in Sacramento have already seen many of the team’s younger talent. Guys like Patrick Bailey, Kyle Harrison, Marco Luciano, Casey Schmitt, and Keaton Winn have spent time with the Sacramento River Cats. In the press release, the River Cats also announce they expect Rocklin native Logan Webb, 2023 All-Star Camilo Doval, and former River Cats Mike Yastrzemski and Thairo Estrada to participate.
“We are extremely excited to be able to bring Giants baseball directly to the Sacramento community,” Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi said in a press release. “Sutter Health Park sets the standard for a quality ballpark experience and our exhibition game on March 24 will be a great way to help us kick off our 2024 season.”
Ticket information will be available at a later date.
