San Francisco Giants sign Matt Chapman to three-year deal

It’s been quite the offseason for the San Francisco Giants.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Giants have reached an agreement with free-agent third baseman Matt Chapman on a three-year, $54 million deal.
The deal will include opt-outs after the first and second years.
Following a long stand-off, clients of super-agent Scott Boras are beginning to sign deals. First, outfielder Cody Bellinger re-upped with the Chicago Cubs on a three-year deal that includes opt-outs after each season.
Now, Chapman will sign a deal with multiple opt-outs as well.

During the 2023 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, Chapman hit .240 and drilled 17 home runs to go along with 54 RBI.
Chapman, 30, spent five years playing under new Giants manager Bob Melvin in Oakland before the A’s traded the two-time Platinum Glove Award winner to Toronto before the 2022 season.
The one-time All-Star just won his fourth Gold Glove Award after another impressive season at the hot corner, has hit 24+ home runs in four of his seven MLB seasons.
San Francisco has added several pieces in free agency this offseason, such as outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, Jorge Soler, and Jordan Hicks. Now, the Giants will add the best-fielding third basemen in baseball to a a much improved lineup.
