While multiple Sacramento Kings players were in Salt Lake City for the NBA All-Star festivities, one Kings coach was overseas checking out Sasha Vezenkov.
Sacramento Kings assistant coach Jay Triano was reportedly in Crete to watch Vezenkov in person, where the Euro-star scored 15 points in 19 minutes. In an interview with Eurohoops.net, Triano said the NBA All-Star break afforded him the opportunity to see Vezenkov live, instead of on film. And what he saw in person was a player with high “basketball intelligence.”
Sometimes you see different things, live. He’s a very good teammate. Passes the ball well. He’s got a good feel for the game. A very smart basketball player. He doesn’t need to dribble. He’s got size. He can see over defense. He can make a pass. He’s a good decision-maker too. I am really impressed with him.
Following those reports, guard De’Aaron Fox was asked about Vezenkov joining the roster.
“It’s crazy to see just how efficient he’s playing. Obviously, we would love for him to come over and just add to our team, you know, I feel like you can never have a team that’s too deep. I think he would be a great fit. I’ve seen where he doesn’t dribble a lot. He’s a guy who can play out of the short, out of the mid-post. He shoots the ball extremely well. For one, if you can shoot the ball well in this league, there’s a spot for you, especially where you’re 6’7″-6’8,” and you can shoot the ball there are a lot of spots for you in this league.”

Sasha Vezenkov and his history with the Kings
Last summer, the Sacramento Kings acquired the NBA rights of Sasha Vezenkov from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for a second-round pick. After the trade, Vezenkov was rumored to be interested in a move to the NBA, but instead chose to play another season in Piraeus, Greece, playing for the EuroLeague club, Olympiacos B.C.
