The San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving: All-Time Record & More
Happy Thanksgiving Sactown Sports family!!!
From all of his here at Sactown Sports, we want to wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. Whether it’s stuffing your face with pumpkin pie, or taking in a loaded turkey day sports schedule, there’s a lot to be thankful for this year.
San Francisco 49ers fans can feel extra thankful going into the weekend, at the top of the NFC West at 6-4. The team’s latest triumph was its’ biggest of the season, dominating the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City on Monday Night Football.
Sadly, the Red & Gold will not be featured in this year’s Thanksgiving slate. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and the players prefer it that way though, already dealing with a short week ahead of their showdown with the New Orleans Saints Sunday.
We got a few extra hours this morning moving the stuff back, so we’re starting a lot later and we’ll just walk through today and we have to mix in Thanksgiving a little bit on Thursday, so we’ll dial some things back for that also.”
With that being said, here is the history of the San Francisco 49ers on turkey day.
The 49ers All-Time Record
San Francisco has only featured on the holiday slate five times in franchise history. The 49ers’ record is 2-2-1 all-time on Thanksgiving. Its’ most recent win came in 1972, defeating hall-of-fame head coach Tom Landry’s Dallas Cowboys, 31-10.
Their Last Game on Turkey Day
The 49ers have only played two games since 1972, in 2011 against the Baltimore Ravens, and in 2014 against the defending champion Seattle Seahawks. San Francisco lost both games, the latter by a score of 19-3.
