Two Athletics prospects will represent Oakland in the 2023 MLB All-Star Futures game in Seattle.

Infielders Tyler Soderstrom, Oakland’s No. 1 prospect, and Lawrence Butler, No. 7 prospect, were selected to this year’s roster for the American League.

Soderstrom currently ranks as the No. 37 overall prospect in the minors.

Soderstrom was drafted 26th overall in the 2020 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics. In 61 games this season with the Las Vegas Aviators, the A’s Triple-A affiliate, the 21-year-old Turlock native has hit .255 with a .302 OBP and 16 homers.

This is Soderstrom’s second appearance in an MLB Futures game, previously representing Oakland in 2021.

Butler, drafted by the A’s in 2018, has been dominant for the Midland RockHounds, Oakland’s Double-A affiliate. Through 59 games, he is batting .284, has hit nine home runs, and recorded ten steals. This is Butler’s first appearance in an MLB Futures game.

The 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game takes place on Saturday, July 8. Six of the top 10 prospects in baseball are set to represent their respective teams.
