It was a thrilling night at Heart Health Park on Tuesday night as the Sacramento Republic FC defeated the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS to advance in the US Open Cup tournament.
Trailing 3-2 entering the second of two 15-minute extra periods, Sacramento scored two quick goals to stun the Earthquakes and send a packed house into a frenzy as the Republic delivered another classic at Cal Expo.
While the tone that immediately followed the match was full of joy and excitement, those feelings were overshadowed by a dark cloud of news that could impact Sacramento’s next US Open Cup match.
Shortly after the win, news broke that Cal Expo was considering not allowing the Republic FC to host the semifinals due to State Fair preparations.
Carmichael Dave shared a breaking news update this morning that will make Sacramento Republic FC fans exhale a sigh of relief:
BREAKING:
Cal Expo has changed course.
Should they win the draw, SRFC WILL host their next open cup match.
Congrats to all on hopefully a big misunderstanding.
