Brock Purdy has proven the doubters wrong from the moment he took the field in his rookie season, going through the fire and then some. But even still, naysayers are on his doorstep entering Year 3, something he has no problem proving them wrong.
The San Francisco 49ers young quarterback made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday, diving into various topics around the NFL. One of those included addressing the haters, especially after the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs this past February. Purdy pays no mind to the outside noise, however, letting his play and the respect inside the locker room speak for him.
“I’m a guy who helps serve this team and help win at all costs,” Brock Purdy told Pat McAfee Tuesday. “As long as we’re winning games, dude. It doesn’t matter.”
And that the Iowa State alum has provided in spades since tasking over.

Brock Purdy, 24, is 20-5 all-time as an NFL starter, making two deep playoff runs in his first two seasons. He finished last season with career highs in most categories, while also breaking the franchise record for passing yards in a single season. The Arizona native made his first Pro Bowl as well.
Despite all the accomplishments for the former Mr. Irrelevant, some still doubt his abilities. And that’s perfectly fine for Mr.Purdy.
“People are always gonna have a talking point and that’s fine,” he stated. “All I care about is the respect with the guys in the locker room and they see how I handle business here…Turn on the film and there’s plays being made.”
Brock Purdy has had to work for everything he’s gotten since being drafted, seen as long shot to make the 53-man roster as a rookie. And while some injury misfortunes propelled him into the limelight, he didn’t flinch under the pressure. A testament to his demeanor, and the support behind him from the 49ers.
“Since I got here it’s been about earning the respect of these guys and it’s been a process…This team has really gotten behind me and they’ve made it easy for me,” Purdy said.
The 49ers gunslinger has been rewarded for his efforts on and off the field as well, set to undergo contract talks on a massive extension after the 2024 season. He has also earned acclaim nationally, being named an official sponsor of John Deere Tuesday.
