San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence after an incident with his girlfriend.
According to a press release from the San Jose Police Department, officers were called to 25-year-old’s Omenihu home around 4:39 p.m. Monday after a call from a woman who told officers that Omenihu is her boyfriend and that he “pushed her to the ground during an argument.”
The news release goes on to say the woman complained of arm pain but “officers did not observe any visible physical injuries.” The woman also declined medical attention.
Omenihu was described as cooperative with officers and gave a statement to the police. He was then arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence. Police also obtained an emergency protective order for the woman, which they then served to Omenihu. He was taken to Santa Clara County jail and released after he posted bail.
San Jose law enforcement said the results of the ongoing investigation will be presented to the Santa Clara County District Attorney for evaluation of any possible charges. No additional details were released.

In a statement Tuesday morning, the San Francisco 49ers said, “We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information.”
Omenihu has been a key member of the team’s defensive line this season, recording a career-high 4 1/2 sacks in the 2022 regular season. He then followed up with a big outing against the Seattle Seahawks in the wild-card round of the playoffs, posting two sacks and a forced fumble in the team’s win.
The Houston native was drafted by the Texans in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. He was traded to the Bay Area on Nov. 2nd, 2021. Omenihu is set to become a free agent in March.
