While the San Francisco 49ers are preparing for another Super Bowl run to begin 2024, the team is also set up quite nicely the rest of the year. And that starts with the NFL Draft.

The 49ers are projected to have 11 draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft this spring. That number is equal to last year’s total as well, which was the most for any NFL franchise in 2023. San Francisco will also have a first-round pick for the first time since 2021, last using the pick, and others, to trade up and select quarterback Trey Lance in the 2021 draft.

These projections were made by OverTheCap, a salary cap website that tracks everything front office in the NFL.

Of the 11 projected picks, four of them are expected to be compensatory.

The 49ers are expected to receive draft compensation for the departures of multiple key players on last season’s team, including quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. OTC projects the Red & Gold to receive a third-round selection for their former QB. San Francisco is also expected to get a fifth-rounder for defensive end Samson Ebukam, and dual sixth-round picks for safety Jimmie Ward and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.

San Francisco would be expected to receive an addition pick for the cornerback Emmanuel Moseley leaving. However, teams are only allowed up to four compensatory picks for player departures per year.

Some arrivals also offset the compensatory process, with defensive tackle Javon Hargrave taking the spot of offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey in the formula. Additionally, the arrivals of QBĀ Sam Darnold, CBĀ Isaiah Oliver, and defensive endĀ Clelin Ferrell crossed outĀ DE Charles Omenihu, guard Daniel Brunskill, and DT Hassan Ridgeway leaving last spring.

The 49ers also traded a compensatory pick from former defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans’ departure, acquiring DE Chase Young from Washington.

The 2024 NFL Draft is set to begin Thursday, April 25th, and will continue through the 27th.
