Trent Williams has accomplished a lot in his 13 years in the NFL.

From being a highly-touted prospect to franchise cornerstone to future hall-of-famer, the San Francisco 49ers star left tackle has done almost everything he could possibly do in his career.

Except when the ultimate prize of them all: The Lombardi Trophy

Now only days away from his first Super Bowl appearance, the Texas native is relishing in the moment.

“I’ve definitely taken it in,” Trent Williams said. “I’m continuing to take it in. I’m just thanking God every day because this is what you dream of, it’s what you pray for, it’s what you grind for. A lot of countless hours spent in the lab trying to perfect my craft and get better just to get an opportunity to get to this stage. So I’m very grateful being here, and I’m taking in every second.”

The former Washington Commander has battled through a lot to get to Las Vegas, including life-threatening sarcoma on his scalp in 2019. Aside from holding out that season, Williams has been a pillar of consistency in the NFL.

Playing in 186 total contests, the star LT has accumulated 11 Pro Bowl accolades in his career, tied with only five other offensive tackles to do so. All other members of the group are etched in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, something everyone on the 49ers has no doubt he’ll be a part of one day.

But a Super Bowl win would put the cherry on top of an already remarkable career.

“I don’t like talking about Hall of Fame-type stuff with players,” 49ers general manager John Lynch stated. “He’s a guy I’m not shy about doing that because he’ll be there and he should be there first ballot. Nothing would help to cement that more than a win in this game.”

After the 2023 NFC Championship game, Williams contemplated retirement briefly. The sting of more heartbreak weighed heavily for a moment.

Fast forward a year, and the LT is looking past this Sunday’s game, already declaring his return for the 2024 NFL regular season as he looks to make his case for the best to ever do it on the offensive line.

The continuation of individual accolades will go on hold momentarily, firmly focused on the task ahead: Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs.

But while this won’t be his career swan song, finally reaching the mountaintop of NFL supremacy would give him his fairly-tale moment after years of hardship.

“It would be like one of those fairy tales,” Trent Williams said. “It’s like something you can only dream about. It’s hard to even describe what that feeling would be like because I’ve never felt that feeling before. But I imagine it would be a memory that we would remember for life.”
