The San Francisco 49ers have been busy after the 2023 NFL Draft, signing several undrafted rookie free agents to the roster. One of those players is offensive lineman Joey Fisher.

The 49ers announced the signing of 11 UDFAs after the draft, with Fisher amongst the players. No details have been provided on the contract, but an agreement allows the player to attend the team’s rookie minicamp this weekend.

Fisher is a division II standout, playing for Shepard University for three seasons (four years). Listed at 6’5″, 322 pounds, the versatile lineman primarily played at right tackle in college, but can play all across the line of scrimmage. The 49ers are a team that values adaptability in the trenches, making Fisher a perfect fit for the Red & Gold.

The 49ers released a statement on the player and what he brings to the table:

Started all 43 games he appeared in during 4 years at Shepherd (2019-21). In 2022, [he] was named a DII All-American and received First-Team All-PSAC East honors after starting all 15 games and helping block for an offense that produced 489.3 yds. per game, including 312.5 passing yds. per game. In 2021, [he] earned First-Team All-PSAC East honors after starting all 15 games and blocking for an offense that produced 337.3 passing yds and 43.7 points per game. [Fisher] did not see any game action in 2020 as the season was cancelled due to the global pandemic. In 2019, [he] was named Second-Team All-PSAC East after starting all 13 games.

Joey Fisher, 23, joins a 49ers’ offensive line in need of a starting-caliber right tackle. After losing Mike McGlinchey in free agency, swing tackle Colton McKivitz is the likely successor at the position for the 49ers. But with a long offseason to go, Fisher could find himself in an opportunist spot by training camp.
