Reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year winner CJ Stroud was a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round selection in Thursday’s NFL Draft.

Stroud, the Houston Texans’ Pro Bowl quarterback, joined Bleacher Report’s on-air draft discussion panel to break down the picks as they happened on Thursday night. Once the 49ers made their selection–the 31st pick in the first round–Stroud threw his hands over his head.

Stroud, who said he had recently spoken with Pearsall, was hoping that his Texans would have been the team to select the Florida product.

“Bro, he’s elite,” Stroud said of Pearsall following the announcement that San Francisco had selected the wide receiver. “You’ll see. Especially in that offense, man. Kyle [Shanahan] is going to dial it up for him.”

Pearsall, 23, is a five-year college player, spending three seasons at Arizona State University, before transferring to Florida for his final two years.

The Arizona native amassed 2,420 receiving yards, 159 catches, and 14 touchdowns in 55 games. Pearsall has the ability to play in a variety of roles, both on the outside and the slot. He is also well versed in special-teams, known as a dynamic punt returner.

Additionally, Pearsall was college teammates with Aiyuk at Arizona State, spending the 2019 season together. Five years later, the pair have been reunited in the NFL on the 49ers.
