Rocklin native Logan Webb named SF Giants’ Opening Day starter

Rocklin native and San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb has been named Opening Day starter for the fourth straight season.

A familiar face will be on the mound for the San Francisco Giants on Opening Day as Logan Webb is set to make the first start of the year.

Webb, a Rocklin native and first-time All-Star one season ago, has been named the Giants’ Opening Day starter for the fourth-straight season. The 28-year-old is the fourth Giants pitcher to make four or more consecutive Opening Day starts in the San Francisco era, joining Juan Marichal (1964-69), Tim Lincecum (2009-12) and Madison Bumgarner (2014-17).

“He’s our guy,” San Francisco manage Bob Melvin said of Webb. “He came up in the system. There’s a lot to love about Logan. It’s not even going to be a conversation.”

The Giants are set to open the 2025 season on Thursday, March 27th in Cincinatti.

“I never take this stuff for granted,” Webb of the honor. “I’m just excited about the staff that we have. It’s an honor to be the one to lead it off. I’m going to try to beat Bum and hopefully get the next couple [Opening Day starts]. But it’s cool to be in the same conversation as those guys. Those are all unbelievable pitchers. You talk about the San Francisco Giants, those are all the guys that you hear about.”

Webb posted his second-straight 200-plus innings pitched season in 2024, leading the National League for the second-straight year. The right-hander started 33 games and faced 841 batters last season (both led MLB) en route to posting a 13-10 record and 3.47 ERA with 172 strikeouts.

Spring Training baseball is in full swing, and San Francisco Giants prospect Bryce Eldrige is already turning heads in Arizona.

Eldridge, the 16th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of Madison High School in Virginia and the Giants’ top prospect (#24 in all of baseball), drilled a mammoth home run during Saturday’s Cactus League action in Surprise, Arizona.

The 20-year-old first baseman sent an 0-2 fastball to dead-center–450 feet, at that–in what was San Francisco’s exclamation point on a Spring-opening win over the Texas Rangers.

After a red-hot year that saw Bryce Eldridge hit .293 with 23 home runs and 90 RBI to go along with a .903 OPS over three levels of minor league baseball (A, A+, AA), San Francisco felt it was worth giving Eldridge another week of action following the conclusion of the AA regular season.
