Athletics call up top prospect Nick Kurtz ahead of Rangers series
Athletics top prospect and first baseman Nick Kurtz has been called up to make his MLB debut this week at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.

The Athletics have called up top prospect Nick Kurtz ahead of their home series against the Texas Rangers, per MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos.
Kurtz, 22, has been raking with Triple-A Las Vegas, batting .321 with seven home runs and 24 RBI over just 20 games.
In 32 career minor league appearances, Kurtz has hit 11 home runs and driven in 37 runs while holding a .336 batting average, .432 on-base percentage, and almost unbelievable 1.121 on-base plus slugging percentage.

Oakland used its 4th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft on the former Wake Forest first baseman, who has thus far held true to his reputation as a power-hitting threat with a strong eye (NCAA-leading 78 walks in 2024).
Kurtz, 21, is 6’5 and 240 pounds and hits from the left side of the plate.

“In a lot of ways, he reminds us of Matt Olson,” Athletics scouting director Eric Kubota said of Kurtz leading into last year’s draft. “Nick was the first person on our list in January when we met. He was the No. 1 pick on our board then, and he still was No. 1 on our board now.”
Nick Kurtz, MLB Pipeline’s No. 7 overall 2024 Draft prospect, has a powerful lefty bat that has drawn high praise for his ability to drive the ball to all fields. But he also has an excellent eye — he led college baseball with 78 walks — as well as the patience to wait for pitches in his wheelhouse.
Kurtz posted a 1.294 OPS last season while also posting the highest on-base percentage of his college career (.531). His 22 homers in 2024 included a stretch with at least one long ball in seven straight games.
