Jimmie Ward could miss week 1 because of a hamstring injury.

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday Ward pulled his hamstring during Sunday’s practice.

“It was a pretty bad hamstring injury and it’s not like the other two guys, so we’ll see over here over the next couple weeks how it plays out,” Shanahan said.

The 31-year-old veteran is coming off a strong 2021 season. Ward started all 16 games and netted 77 tackles and two interceptions.

When asked about depth, Shanahan said the team may have to sign someone. NFL teams have until 4 p.m. EST To trim rosters down to 85 players.

“We probably will have to add some more people there, especially with [CB] Dontae [Johnson], because Dontae has done a real good job also,” Shanahan said. “But he might be out this week too with his rib cartilage, so we’ll see how it goes with the roster. We might move our nickels around a little bit just for some guys, but hopefully we’ll get some more guys in here soon.”

Shanahan also told reporters these hamstring injuries happened after the team has had a day off.

“So I think our biggest challenge has been these off days, how to come back from them if you look at the three who’ve had them,” Shanahan said.”
