The Las Vegas Raiders and tight end Darren Waller are going to be together for years to come.

Waller and the Raiders have agreed to a 3-year contract extension, the team said in a press release. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the extension is worth $51 million in new money for Waller. The extension was announced the day before the Raiders kick off the 2022 season against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Darren brings a tremendous commitment and work ethic to the building every day and we couldn’t be more thrilled that he will be a part of the Raiders Family for years to come,” coach Josh McDaniels said in the team’s press release.

Before signing the extension, Darren Waller had two years and $13 million left on a contract he signed in 2019. While the 29-year-old only played in 11 games in the 2021 season, netting 55 catches and 665 yards, he has shown flashes of greatness when healthy. Waller posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020.

During the offseason, Waller left Clutch Sports and signed with Drew Rosenhaus.

Waller has missed portions of training camp due to a hamstring injury. Recently, coach Josh McDaniels told reporters the tight end is “doing everything he can” to get ready for week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.ย

“I don’t want to make a prediction on whether he will or won’t be ready here in a few weeks, but I see him every day, he’s in every meeting, he’s doing everything he can to get out there as fast as possible,” McDaniels said.
