The San Francisco Giants are making roster moves in September.

The team announced a new partnership with Master Sommelier Evan Goldstein. The Giants are the first team to employ a master sommelier for a professional sports organization.

“Wine, like baseball, is an experience – it creates and impacts memories and brings people together,” Goldstein said in a press release. “Delicious wines can be mainstream and accessible, and as happy being alongside a hot dog as a premium steak. I am excited to collaborate with the Giants to create a new wine benchmark for sports entertainment.”

The partnership is an extension of what people can experience in nearby wine countries like Sonoma or Napa County. The 26-year-old Goldstein will work with the team on the following experiences:

  • In-person and virtual wine tasting sessions.
  • Create wine pairings for Oracle Park.
  • Assisting with the selection of wines featured at Oracle Park.
  • Curate wine-related activities and events.
  • Collaborate with current and former Giants’ players to learn more about wine and the wine industry.

Candlestick Park, the former home of the San Francisco Giants, was the first MLB stadium to introduce an in-stadium wine service in 1977.

“We are thrilled to partner with Evan and bring his extensive knowledge of wine into our organization,” Jason Pearl, Giants Senior Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer, said in the press release. “His unique vision and passion for how wine and baseball can interact on multiple levels, inside and outside the ballpark, is exciting and we look forward to the collaboration.”
