The Las Vegas Raiders are the only team in the NFL to start the season 0-3.

While the Houston Texans have not yet won a game, they do have a tie in their record.

Before the team officially moves on to preparing for a Week 4 matchup against division rivals Denver Broncos, coach Josh McDaniels and quarterback Derek Carr took time to reflect on Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans 24-22.

“I give Mike and his crew a lot of credit. They started the game a lot better than we did,” McDaniels said. “We dug ourselves a hole again. We’re going to have to learn how to play a full 60 minutes and earn the right to win. There’s a lot of things we have to do better as coaches and players and that’s what we’re going to focus on.”

The coach went on to say that losing gets old fast and went on to say they have to eliminate the penalties “that hurt us.” The Raiders committed 6 penalties for 44 yards, including an unsportsmanlike conduct call in the fourth quarter.

“This league requires a lot of mental toughness,” McDaniels said. “Nobody likes losing. It should hurt when we lose, we all feel shitty, so we want to try and do better and put our best foot forward and the only way to do that is to come back in and work hard at it and try to put together another good week this week and try to go out there and earn a victory on Sunday.”

When Carr was asked about the team having the right mental toughness, he said right now, the team doesn’t have the mental toughness to win.

“The penalties down in the Red Zone, the other stuff, we have to be better and if not, we’re going to have a sucky feeling after every game,” Carr said. “You try your best to do it the right way in practice and if you don’t do it right in practice, you can’t expect it to go right in the game. And we gotta look at that, and each man as an individual say ‘okay then, I got to be better at this, this and this.'”

When asked what’s more frustrating, not being able to get over the hump and get the first win, or redundancies in the losses, Carr said “the overall feeling of losing breaks my heart.”
