Here’s something that you don’t see every October: the San Francisco Giants with a .500 record.

The Giants ended its 2022 season on a high-note Wednesday as they defeated their National League West counterpart San Diego Padres by a final of 8-1 at PETCO Park. By winning the season finale, San Francisco secured its 81st win of the season to finish the year with a perfectly split record of 81-81.

For the first time in their 140-year franchise history, San Francisco ended a season with a .500 record.

After missing the postseason for the fifth time over the past six seasons, it’s time for Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi to swing big this offseason.

San Francisco has to make a swing-for-the-fences type of splash this winter if they want to get back into the thick of the National League pennant race. There will be plenty of big free-agent names available on the market, and the Giants will hope to add a notable star to their lineup for the 2023 season.
