Despite a lackluster 2022 season for the San Francisco Giants, aces Carlos Rodón and Logan Webb delivered the goods individually this year. So much so that both starting pitchers were among the finalists for the National League Cy Young Award.

Rodón finished sixth in NL voting, while Webb was 11th in the polls. Miami’s Sandy Alcantara won the award unanimously for the NL and Houston’s Justin Verlander won his third Cy Young of his career, becoming the fifth-oldest person to win the award in the MLB.

While the decision wasn’t close at the end of the season, Rodón made a compelling case for part of the year, finishing with a 2.88 ERA in his first season in San Francisco. He also led the NL in FIP (2.25), while ranking second with 237 strikeouts in 2022. The Miami native was first among MLB starters with 12.0 strikeouts per nine innings and made his second All-Star team in his career.

Rodón received three second-place votes, listed on half of the 30 ballots around the league. He finished behind Alcantara, Atlanta’s Max Fried, Los Angeles’ Julio Urias, Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola and Arizona’s Zac Gallen.

Meanwhile, Webb also put together another stellar season on the mound. The Rocklin native pitched a 2.9 ERA, got 163 strikeouts and finished with a 3.03 FIP in 2022. He finished with a 15-9 record.

Webb’s efforts were good enough to receive a fourth-place vote from Pittsburgh writer John Perrotto in voting. It was the first time Webb, who broke out in 2021, was listed on a Cy Young ballot in his young career.

Rodón is a free agent this winter and the Giants expect him to command a massive contract elsewhere, according to NBC Sports’ Alex Pavlovic. Webb will stay with the team for the long haul, presumably, only turning 26 on the 18th of this month.
