If you thought that the San Francisco Giants were done making additions to its rotation after the signing of left-hander Sean Manaea, think again.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser, the Giants are still pursuing starting pitcher Carlos Rodón as they hope to bolster its rotation with the return of the 2022 All-Star.

Rodón, 30, acted as San Francisco’s ace during the 2022 season as the southpaw posted a 14-8 record with a 2.88 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. Strikeouts came in bunches for Rodón as he finished the season with 237 (second in the National League) strikeouts tossed over 178 innings pitched.

The Giants will have plenty of competition for Rodón’s services as the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals are two teams that have been heavily mentioned as potential destinations for the All-Star.

According to multiple reports, Carlos Rodón is seeking $30 million per season over five-to-six years, meaning that it will likely take an offer of $150 million or more to make a reunion possible.

San Francisco is looking to make a splash this offseason after a disappointing 81-81 finish in 2022, but things have gotten off to an unideal start on the star free agent hunt after Linden native Aaron Judge took less money to remain with the Yankees.

The Giants have inked right fielder Mitch Haniger and Manaea to free agent deals while retaining outfielder Joc Pederson, but more work will need to be done if they want to challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres at the top of the National League West standings.

Bringing back Rodón would be a great boost to that process.
