Although the San Francisco Giants suffered a 7-1 defeat in its series finale against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon, things are trending upward for the orange and black.

San Francisco (24-25) has won seven of its past nine games while winning three-straight series against the Twins, Miami Marlins, and Philadelphia Phillies.

Thanks to some red-hot hitting from players like Michael Conforto, Thairo Estrada, and Casey Schmitt, the Giants’ offense has backed up a pitching staff that has posted a 2.81 ERA over the past nine games.

Alex Cobb has been San Francisco’s go-to arm this season, as the veteran right-hander holds a 4-1 record with a 2.17 ERA (fourth-best in MLB and second-best in the National League).

The Giants have won its past four games with Cobb on the mound, and they’ll hope that they can end their next series against the Milwaukee Brewers on a high-not when the 35-year-old takes the mound on Sunday in the four-game series finale.

Milwaukee (27-22) currently sits atop the National League Central after winning three of its past four games against American League powerhouses Houston and Tampa Bay over the past week.

San Francisco took two of three games from the Brewers earlier this month when the teams met at Oracle Park, with the Giants celebrating Willie Mays’ 92nd birthday during a 4-1 win on May 6th.

After brushing off a rough stretch that pushed them six games under .500, the Giants are closing in on passing the mark if they can win another series against the Brew Crew.

Here are the pitching probables and some players to keep an eye on as play opens up in Milwaukee:

Probables – SFG vs. MIL

Thursday, May 25th – Scott Alexander (4-0, 4.42 ERA) vs. TBD – 4:40 PM PST

Friday, May 26th – Alex Wood (0-0, 4.05 ERA) vs. Freddy Peralta (5-3, 4.15 ERA) – 5:10 PM PST

Saturday, May 27th – Logan Webb (3-5, 2.91 ERA) vs. Corbin Burnes (4-4, 3.97 ERA) – 1:10 PM PST

Sunday, May 28th – Alex Cobb (4-1, 2.17 ERA) vs. Colin Rea (1-3, 4.71 ERA) – 11:10 AM PST

Who’s Hot?

  • Michael Conforto is batting .341 with five home runs and 12 RBI over his past 12 games played.
  • Casey Schmitt refuses to slow down. The rookie is batting .328 over 15 games since being called up from AAA Sacramento.
  • Camilo Doval has allowed just one run over his past 12 appearances, holding a 0.77 ERA over 11.2 innings during the process.
  • Local product Logan Webb has turned a corner following a rough start to the season. Webb holds a 1.74 ERA (3-1 record) over his past six starts.
