Over the Memorial Day weekend, Pro Football Talk reported that new Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has an addendum in his contract that he could be released because of last season’s foot injury.

The news came days after Raiders coach Josh McDaniels reported Garoppolo would miss OTA’s as the 31-year-old gunslinger works his way back from surgery.

On the first day of June, McDaniels spoke to the media again, updating everyone on Garoppolo’s health and if there’s any concern the foot doesn’t heal before the start of the 2023 season.

“I have no anxiety. You guys might have anxiety, I don’t have any anxiety,” McDaniels said, adding there’s still no timeline on when Garoppolo could return.

And while some may have concerns that because Jimmy G isn’t on the field, he isn’t building a relationship with his new teammates. McDaniels shot down those thoughts.

“The relationships, the trust, the communication, the rapport, all that stuff is being built. He’s here every day obviously, and the guys are getting to know each other, which is a great thing. I don’t want to over overstate or understate the importance of OTAs or anything like that. It’s an important time of the year, but there’s also a lot of players that can’t participate in it. And again, remember it’s voluntary, so there’s players that aren’t participating in it across the league. So it doesn’t mean that, ‘Oh, well this year is going to be bad for him,’ and, ‘Not good for him,’ and all the rest of it. So like I said, I have no anxiety about it. I’m excited that he’s here, really excited that he’s here and looking forward to it when he’s out there,” McDaniels said.

Along with signing Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason, the Raiders signed ex-Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer and drafted Aidan O’Connell.
