It’s draft week!

The San Francisco Giants were busy during Sunday’s opening day of the 2023 MLB Draft, bringing in a two-way talent, an infielder that was projected to be selected higher than his draft slot, and a hard-throwing left-hander.

While the first three selections for the Giants come with plenty of promise, there is still more work to be done for San Francisco’s President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi, and general manager Pete Putila as the draft rolls on through Tuesday.

As the 2023 MLB Draft continues, here’s who the San Francisco Giants selected during the first and second rounds on Sunday:

(1st Rd.) 16th overall pick: Bryce Eldridge, RHP/1B, James Madison (Virginia) High School

2023 stats: 9-0, 1.06 ERA, and 66 strikeouts to 8 walks in 39.2 innings on the mound last season.

.422 batting average, 8 home runs, 23 RBI, 1.716 OPS at the plate in 2023, according to Gatorade.

(2nd Rd.) 52nd overall pick: Walker Martin, IF, Eaton (Colorado) High School

2023 stats: .633 batting average with 75 RBI, 64 runs, 11 doubles, and four triples.

He was named Colorado’s player of the year by CHSAAGatorade, and MaxPreps.

(2nd Rd.) 69th overall pick: Joe Whitman, LHP, Kent State

2023 stats: 9-2 record, 2.56 ERA, 100 strikeouts over 81 innings pitched.
