Giants to begin series against Phillies with Wild Card implications

After salvaging the final game of a three-game series against the MLB-best Atlanta Braves, the San Francisco Giants will face another surging team in the race for a postseason spot.

San Francisco (65-59) will open up a three-game series on Monday in Philadelphia against a Phillies (67-57) team that has moved into the top National League Wild Card spot amid the Giants’ recent slide.

Entering play on Monday, Philadelphia holds a two-game lead over San Francisco in the Wild Card standings while the Giants have watched its once-comfortable lead in the standings be reduced to a slim half-game margin over the Chicago Cubs for the second Wild Card spot.

This is the final time that San Francisco will face the Phillies during the 2023 regular season, meaning that the Giants will need to make these games count as they look to trim the two-game deficit.
