The MLB offseason is here for 25 teams, meaning that now is the time for players to recover from their injuries during the regular season.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Austin Slater is taking steps towards being fully healthy come Spring Training as the 30-year-old underwent a procedure on his right elbow, says The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser.

According to the report, Slater had a bone spur removed at the back of his elbow and an ulnar nerve transposition to help relieve nerve pain.

His rehab should take about four months, meaning that Slater would be ready to report to Spring Training in February.

Over 89 appearances with the Giants in 2023, Slater hit .270 to go along with five home runs, 20 RBI, and twenty walks against 58 strikeouts.

The veteran outfielder wrapped up his seventh season in a San Francisco uniform and will look to bounce back from his injury and put forward a strong effort in what will be the final year of his Giants contract.

San Francisco president Farhan Zaidi has no shortage of decisions to make this winter, and it’s hard to know who will undoubtedly be back once players report for Spring Training in February.

Following a second-straight year without a postseason appearance, Zaidi fired manager Gabe Kapler just days before the 2023 regular season concluded. Beloved shortstop Brandon Crawford is unlikely to return next season, whether it be due to retirement or for another opportunity elsewhere.

While it’s tough to know if Slater will be back in a Giants uniform next year, the outfielder is doing what he can to be ready to go once it’s time to report to Arizona for workouts in the spring.
