San Francisco Giants pitcher Alex Cobb will undergo off-season hip surgery to “address his labrum and ongoing impingement issues.”

According to the team, Cobb is scheduled for surgery on his left hip with Dr. Marc Philippon in Vail, Colo.

“After a month of rehab and multiple treatment therapies, Alex had another consultation with Dr. Philippon recently and it was decided that surgery is the best option at this time to get him back to pitching,” the team announced on Monday.

Cobb is expected to be sidelined for approximately six months, meaning he will miss Spring Training and the start of the 2024 season.

Cobb was a force for the Giants early in the season, but the veteran dealt with hip issues for much of the second half. The 36-year-old right-handed pitcher was eventually shut down in September.

First half: 6-2, 2.91 ERA, 86 K over 89.2 innings

Second half: 1-5, 5.25 ERA, 45 K over 61.2 innings

For the season, Cobb finished with a 3.87 ERA and that early-season success helped him secure his first All-Star selection.

Cobb, an impending free agent, has a $10 million team option. According to NBC Sports, if the Giants do not pick up that option, they’ll still owe him a $2 million buyout.
