Last offseason, Sean Manaea agreed to a two-year deal with the San Francisco Giants. Apparently, he’s ready to test free agency again.

When Manaea signed with the Giants, the deal included an opt-out clause following the 2023 season. According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser, the left-handed veteran plans to utilize that clause and become a free agent. The team later confirmed the news.

The 31-year-old Manaea saw an up and down year with San Francisco, struggling through the first three months of the season with a 5.68 ERA. The team moved him from the starting rotation to the bullpen.

Then when July came around, things improved, finishing the second half of the year with a 3.44 ERA and four of his seven wins.

Had he opted into his contract, the Giants would have been on the hook for $15 million.

Sean Manaea spent his first six years in the majors with the Oakland Athletics before he was traded to San Diego. With the A’s, he amassed a 50-41 record with a 3.86 ERA.
