Veterans outfielders Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater have agreed to one-year deals each with the Giants.

San Francisco announced the moves over the weekend. According to MLB Network insider Mark Feinsand, Yastrzemski’s deal is for $7.9 million. And MLB Network contributor Craig Mish reports Slater’s deal is worth $4 million.

Mike Yastrzemski, who joined the team in 2019, struggled in 2023. Usually one of the Giants’ more consistent outfielders, Yaz dealt with hamstring injuries throughout last season, limiting him to 106 games, his second-lowest in his San Francisco career. He finished the year with 43 RBI’s, 15 home runs, and 77 hits on a .233 batting average and an on-base percentage of .330.

If Brandon Crawford does not return to San Francisco, Slater is in line to become the longest-tenured Giant. Heading into his eighth season in the Bay, the 30-year-old outfielder was drafted by San Francisco in 2014, debuting in the majors in 2017.

But, Slater also struggled to stay on the field in 2023, only playing 89 games. According to SI’s Fan Nation contributor Marc Delucchi, Slater underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery earlier this offseason. When he was on the field, he hit .270 with an on-base percentage of .348.

Outfielder Michael Conforto opted into his contract earlier this outfield. And with Mitch Haniger under contract, too, the San Francisco Giants outfield is already crowded before any free agency moves are made.
