Dusty Baker is only a few months into retirement and is already looking to get back into baseball.

The former Giants manager joined 95.7 The Game on the last Friday of 2023, telling Jason Dumas and F.P. Santangelo he’s had talks with the Giants about returning in some capacity.

“I’m also actually talking to the Giants. I talked to Larry Baer [President & Chief Executive Officer of the Giants] the other day about the possibility of maybe even joining them and so we just have to see how things work out for all of us,” Baker said.

The 74-year-old Baker retired in October after 26 seasons as an MLB manager. He went on to tell Dumas and Santangelo that talks have been preliminary so far, and that he still needs to speak with Farhan Zaidi, the Giants President of Baseball Operations.

“They do have a team here in Sacramento where I am, the River Cats team… You know, we’ll see. If we can work things out family-wise and time-wise and all kinds of ways,” Baker added.

Dusty Baker won his first World Series as a manager in 2022 with Houston. He previously appeared in the World Series as a manager with the San Francisco Giants in 2002. In 26 seasons as a manager for the Astros, Giants Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals, Baker has amassed 2,183 regular-season wins.

Before he became a manager, Baker was an outfielder from 1968 through 1986. He played for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland Athletics.

Dusty Baker and his family moved to the Sacramento area when he was in his teens. In 2010, Baker was inducted into the Sac-Joaquin Section’s Hall of Fame because he was a stand-out athlete at Del Campo High School. Baker still has ties in the Sacramento region. The Baker Family Wines is located in West Sacramento.
