The San Francisco Giants now have the National League Cy Young Award winner and runner-up in its 2024 rotation.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Giants have reached a two-year, $62 million agreement with left-handed pitcher Blake Snell that will bring the two-time Cy Young Award winner to the Bay Area.

San Francisco will slot Snell into a rotation alongside Logan Webb (2nd in the 2023 NL Cy Young race) as team president Farhan Zaidi places an exclamation point on a busy offseason.

Snell can opt out of his contract following the 2024 season, similar to the agreements that fellow Scott Boras clients Matt Chapman and Cody Bellinger signed in recent weeks.

More on new Giants pitcher Blake Snell

The 31-year-old thrived during the 2023 season while playing for the San Diego Padres.

Over 32 starts (180 innings), Snell posted a 14-9 record to go along with a 2.25 ERA (best in MLB), 234 strikeouts (3rd in MLB), and a 1.18 WHIP.

Snell led all of Major League Baseball in hits allowed per nine innings pitched (5.8), although the southpaw had trouble going deep into games as he also led the league in walks (99).

With Snell in the fold, the Giants could have a strong rotation for the playoff push once Alex Cobb and Robbie Ray return from the injured list. Here’s a look at how San Francisco’s rotation will shape up come July:

  • Logan Webb (R)
  • Blake Snell (L)
  • Alex Cobb (R)
  • Robbie Ray (L)
  • Kyle Harrison (L)

San Francisco has added several pieces in free agency this offseason, such as outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, slugger Jorge Soler, Platinum Glove-winning third baseman Matt Chapman, and hard-throwing pitcher Jordan Hicks.

Now, the Giants will add a two-time Cy Young Award winner into the mix for 2024.
