MLB opening day is days away and we know who is hitting the mound for the Giants and Athletics.

All but two major league teams will kick off the 2024 season on Thursday, March 28. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will start the season nearly a week earlier, when they face off in the Seoul Series, with the first pitch at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 21.

Logan Webb will lead San Francisco when they face off against the San Diego Padres. Last year’s National League Cy Young runner-up is making his third straight opening-day start for the Giants. In 2023 when he faced off against the New York Yankees, Webb recorded 12 strikeouts, a franchise record for opening day.

Last year, Logan Webb posted an 11-13 record, with a 3.25 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP over 33 starts. Unfortunately, he received little run support from his San Francisco teammates during the 2023 season. In fact, He ranked dead-last in run support among all MLB starters with 20 or more starts (3.09 runs per start).

Back in the Bay, Alex Wood gets his first MLB opening day start when he takes the mound for the A’s against the Cleveland Guardians.

The 33-year-old left-hander went 5-5 with a 4.33 ERA in 29 games and 12 starts with the Giants last season. In three seasons with San Francisco, he went 23-21 with a 4.41 ERA in 81 games, including 64 starts.

Oakland A’s opening day opponent

When the Athletics take on Stephen Vogt’s Cleveland Guardians, they’ll face off against right-handed pitcher Shane Bieber.

San Francisco Giants opening day opponent

We don’t know yet who is hitting the mound for the Padres. The team lost its Cy Young Award-winning pitcher, and last year’s opening-day starter, Blake Snell in free agency to the Giants.
