Instead of taking the ball for Wednesday’s series finale against the New York Mets, Blake Snell is heading to the injured list.

The San Francisco Giants placed Snell on the 15-day injured list before the left-hander’s planned start against New York due to a left adductor strain.

Snell, the 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner, has struggled during his first three starts as a Giants, posting an 0-3 record and 11.57 ERA over 11.2 innings.

San Francisco recalled right-hander Landen Roupp from AAA Sacramento to replace Snell on the active roster. Ryan Walker will start on Wednesday against Mets starter and former Giants lefty Sean Manaea.

As for when Snell could return, adductor strains have typically sidelined MLB players for weeks to months, with some recoveries taking as long as 2-3 months. It’s currently unknown what level of strain Snell is dealing with, but it looks as if San Francisco will be without its prized offseason signing for the foreseeable future.

Snell joins fellow starting pitchers Alex Cobb (hip) and Robbie Ray (recovery from Tommy John surgery) on the injured list.

Cobb is due to return in late May, while Ray is set to take the mound in late June or early July after missing nearly the entirety of 2023 and the first half of the 2024 season.

Upcoming schedule for Blake Snell & the San Francisco Giants

  • Friday, April 26th-Sunday, April 28th – vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Tuesday, April 30th-Thursday, Mary 2nd – @ Boston Red Sox
