A’s Injury Updates: Clarke, Wilson making progress

As the Athletics continue their recent winning ways, a few key players are inching closer to a return. Here are some A's injury updates.

The Athletics are 12-6 over their past 18 games, and what makes that stretch more impressive is the fact that they’re playing shorthanded.

All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson, speedy outfielder Denzel Clarke, and now ace Luis Severino are just a few names to mention when taking the A’s injury bug into account, but the green and gold continue to win games.

Here are some updates on the Athletics players who are currently working their ways back from the injured list:

Athletics Injury Updates: August 13th

OF Denzel Clarke (10-day IL): Right adductor strain

  • Continuing a running and hitting progression; looking to start rehab assignment shortly

RHP Gunnar Hoglund (60-day IL): Right hip impingement surgery

  • No baseball activities; rehabbing in West Sacramento

RHP Grant Holman (60-day IL): Right shoulder rotator cuff tendinitis; right finger strain

  • Shoulder throwing progression was stopped due to finger injury (A4 pulley)

  • Has begun gripping activities and will be building back to a throwing progression

RHP Jose Leclerc (60-day IL): Right lat strain

  • Had successful surgery with Dr. Meister on Aug. 6 and will rehab in Dallas

  • Out for the season

RHP Luis Medina (60-day IL): Recovery from Tommy John surgery

  • Continuing with mound/bullpen progression

INF Max Muncy (10-day IL): Right hand fracture

  • Continuing with defensive baseball activities; no hitting at this time

RHP Luis Severino (10-day IL): Grade 1 left oblique strain

  • Will start playing catch today

INF Jacob Wilson (10-day IL): Left forearm fracture

  • Began a hitting progression; continuing with baseball activities

C Austin Wynns (60-day IL): Sports hernia – stress fracture

  • No baseball activities for four to six weeks

The Athletics have placed right-handed pitcher Luis Severino on the 15-day injured list retroactive to August 6 with a left oblique strain and recalled left-handed pitcher Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Severino was the A’s Opening Day starter and has gone 6-11 with a 4.82 ERA in 24 starts, including 103 strikeouts and 44 walks in 136.1 innings pitched. In his last five starts he is 4-1 with a 2.93 ERA, 30 strikeouts, and eight walks in 27.2 innings of work after starting the season 2-10 with a 5.30 ERA in his first 19 starts spanning 108.2 innings.

Harris returns to the A’s for his third stint after being optioned to Las Vegas on July 23. In 30 Major League appearances, he is 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA in 41.1 innings pitched. In 10 Triple-A outings, he is 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 14.2 innings of work.
