It’s been trending this way for a while, but now it’s official: Arik Armstead is back for the 49ers this weekend.
The San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle heading into the NFC Divisional Round with no injury designation, meaning he is good to go against the Green Bay Packers. Armstead practiced in a limited capacity throughout the week, with the team wanting to preserve him for the playoff push.
The extended rest and recovery seemed to do the trick, with the defensive lineman now set to play his first game in six weeks.
“Fortunately we got the number one seed so I got a little more time to rest and heal up and I’m feeling good and excited to get out there with my brothers.”

Arik Armstead, 30, has dealt with plantar fasciitis in his right foot for the better part of two years. The Sacramento native missed half of the 2022 regular season because of the injury.
Getting banged up after the team’s 2023 Bye Week, Armstead played through the pain in Week 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Wanting to be cautious with their star player, SF put him on ice, hoping to have him healthy for the playoffs. But if the team needed him to step in Week 18, he could have.
“He would’ve gone last week if we needed that [game],” 49ers’ coach Kyle Shanahan said during the team’s first-round Bye about Armstead.
Armstead has recorded 27 combined tackles, five sacks and 13 quarterback hits in 2023. He also scored an 81.9 Pro Football Focus grade, becoming the 49ers’ best interior run defender.
Additionally, San Francisco will face Green Bay with a relatively healthy roster. Almost all active members will suit up for Saturday, with only DL Clelin Ferrell ruled out due to a knee injury.
The only 49er listed as questionable is linebacker Dre Greenlaw. The budding player has been dealing with Achilles tendonitis for the last few weeks, and was held out of Week 18 for precaution. Greenlaw is expected to play on Saturday nonetheless.
