The San Francisco 49ers 2023 season has been spearheaded by star players across the board. But none of them have made the leap quite like Brock Purdy.

The second-year gunslinger finished Week 17 with not only a win on the road, but a moment for the history books. Purdy became the 49ers’ single-season passing leader last Sunday, surpassing Jeff Garcia’s franchise record that stood for more than 20 years. An incredible accomplishment for the former Mr. Irrevalant, finishing Week 17 with more than 4,280 passing yards for the year.

But when asked to give a speech in the locker room, all Purdy could do was feel thankful for the guys around him.

“Nah seriously boys, this is a testament to you guys,” Brock Purdy said after Week 17’s win. “I can’t do it on my own. We got a squad. We know what our ultimate goal is. We’re going to take it one day at a time and roll from here.

“But this is a testament to you guys, seriously.”

After breaking down the postgame huddle, 49ers left tackle Trent Williams was seen repeatedly telling the QB how proud he is of him. Always even-keeled, Purdy responded humbly to the admiration, appreciative to be in the position he is in.

“It’s an honor to be able to come into an organization with the rich history this place has and obviously be able to break a record like that,” Purdy told the media about the record. “To me, just the human side of it, it’s cool. I was just a little kid dreaming of playing in the NFL and to be able to do something like that…Man, I’ve got to say it’s a testament to the team that I have around me. The dudes I get to throw the ball to, the guys on defense, special teams, our coaches, the organization.

“Everything’s been so good for me to come in and they’ve allowed me to have success. So it’s a testament to everyone around me and I’m very thankful.”

The 49ers offense set another record during Week 17, becoming the first NFL franchise to have one running back, two wide receivers and one tight end with a 1,000-plus yards in a season. Those players include Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle.

Purdy, 24, has been no slouch either, helping the Red & Gold to a 19-5 record with him under center. For the 2023 season, he has 4,280 passing yards, 33 total touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The gunslinger also finished first in Pro Bowl votes by the fans, showing his impact on the rest of the NFL landscape.
