KHTK is bringing former members of the Sacramento Kings on the air to reflect on their time in the purple and black, talk basketball and much more!

This morning on “The Drive”, Carmichael Dave and Jason Ross had former Kings forward Caron Butler on the show to reflect on his time as a Sacramento King.

Butler, 40, played 14 seasons in the NBA with the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings.

The two-time NBA All-Star finished his career with averages of 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Butler, who played his last season in the NBA with the Kings during the 2015-16 season, joined the show this morning to reflect on his time in the league, his time in Sacramento and the current developments of the COVID-19 outbreak that has affected hundreds of thousands of people across the globe.

“Playing board games, going outside, having a little fun in the yard and playing basketball games, H.OR.S.E., you name it,” Butler said of what he and his family are doing to stay busy during this tough time. “Maximizing our space and doing a bunch of things to keep ourselves occupied.”

Butler had great insight on how this virus can impact young kids that look to basketball as a way to keep themselves busy and out of trouble.

“Basketball saved my life,” he said. “It gave me a gateway to escape from the streets and adversity and gangs, all of that stuff that I was facing at the time. When I look at this virus right now and the way that it’s spreading, the only comfort that I have is that the social distancing–you’re not going to gatherings or going to be around gatherings, whether it’s things in the street and stuff like that because you don’t want to become vulnerable to this virus.”

Butler had a lot of great things to say about the way the virus has impacted the youth, his career in broadcasting and more. Check the entire interview out at the top of the page.
