When the Sacramento River Cats take the field on Thursday night, they will face a former Cy Young Award winner with 12 years of big-league experience.

Dallas Keuchel, a veteran left-hander who has pitched at the MLB level from 2012-23, will start against the River Cats on Thursday night at Sutter Health Park when Sacramento faces the Tacoma Rainiers.

Keuchel, 36, signed a minor-league deal with the Seattle Mariners in April and hopes to join the big-league roster at some point this season.

More on the River Cats vs. Tacoma Rainiers matchup

Both teams enter play on Thursday amid solid starts to the season, with the Sacramento River Cats (19-10, 1st place) and Tacoma (17-12, 2nd place) entering play as the top two teams in the Pacific Coast League West standings.

A River Cats lineup that includes several familiar faces from the San Francisco Giants will face off against Keuchel, including Casey Schmitt, Luis Matos, Marco Luciano, and Blake Sabol.

Keuchel, who won the 2015 American League Cy Young Award while playing for the Houston Astros, holds a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 3.86 over four starts.

Over his past two starts, Keuchel has allowed just one run and struck out seven batters over 10.0 innings pitched.

Sacramento will take a shot at the former Cy Young Award winner at Sutter Health Park on Thursday, with first pitch set for 6:45 PM PDT.
