Forty-Niner end Billy Wilson (84) snags pass from teammate Y.A. Tittle, good for a touchdown in the second quarter of clash with Detroit Lions at Kezar Stadium for the NFL Western Division title. Defending, but powerless to stop the take is Lions' Jack Christiansen (24).

The Detroit Lions won a playoff game this past weekend for the first time since 1992.

Detroit defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23, punching their ticket to Levi’s Stadium for the NFC Championship game. With the win, they broke a 31-season drought of playoff wins. Now, the Miami Dolphins hold the title for the longest amount of time since a playoff win, last being victorious in 2000 over the Indianapolis Colts.

But now, the Lions have to win on the road, something they haven’t done in the postseason since 1957. And wouldn’t you know it, their last road playoff win came against their next opponent, the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, Detroit has rattled off 10 straight road playoff losses.

The Lions upset the 49ers 31-27 on Dec. 22, 1957. According to the box score, San Francisco went up early, securing a 24-7 lead into halftime. But Detroit wouldn’t quit, scoring three touchdowns and a field goal while holding the 49ers to only three points in the second half.

After that win, the Detroit Lions went on to defeat the Cleveland Browns 59-14 to win the NFL Championship. That’s right, the last time the Lions won a road playoff game, the Super Bowl hadn’t even formed yet. The first Super Bowl would take place 10 years later in 1967.
