There are some teams that are just nightmare matchups for others. The Houston Rockets are the nightmare that keep the Sacramento Kings up at night. With their dominant, 130-105 victory Tuesday night, Houston completes the season sweep of Sacramento, outscoring the Kings by an average of 20.5 points per contest.

“We cannot let go of the rope and we’re not going to,” said Kings head coach Dave Joerger.

The Rockets made 26 three-pointers, tying their NBA record for threes in a game that they set back in December against the Washington Wizards. James Harden led the way with seven of those threes, 21 of his 36 total points. Eric Gordon added five threes and Danuel House Jr. tallied four off the bench.

“They’re a good team but our energy was bad and everyone was looking like they wanted the season to be done with but we have to do a better job finishing, closing out and competing,” said Buddy Hield.

Hield led the Kings in scoring with 20 total points. Rookie Marvin Bagley added 19 off the bench.

Now that they have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, it’s not hard to imagine that some of the players might mentally check out through these final few games, ready for the relief of the offseason. However, Hield says the team still has one major goal they want to accomplish.

“We are trying to finish at .500 or over .500. That’s the goal.”

The Kings’ next game is this Thursday as they host the Cleveland Cavaliers, who they defeated 129-110 back in December.
