Jason Aponte, 49ers beat writer for Niners Nation and co-host of the Sprint Right Option podcast, joined Sactown Sports to preview San Francisco’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Red Birds are coming off a big win against the Dallas Cowboys. Are the Cardinals better than we all expected them to be?

“When you watch Arizona be competitive in all these games, they absolutely had a chance to win all of them. You can kind of make the comparison to the 2017 49ers, in which they lost a lot of games, but they were in a lot of games, which kind of told you they were on the cusp of doing something,” Aponte said. “Everybody kind of had it in their mind that Arizona is going to tank, they want Caleb Williams. But for me, it shows they’re kind of changing the culture.”

Additional topics discussed include:

  • Could injuries hinder the 49ers on Sunday?
  • How much did the injury to Trevon Diggs impact the Cowboys’ season?
  • If the speedy Cardinals wide receivers pose a big threat to the 49ers’ secondary.
  • Are there still health concerns around quarterback Brock Purdy?
  • Why the 49ers have the potential to score 40 or 50 points
