Sacramento Kings forward Kessler Edwards spoke to the media on Thursday as the team’s Summer League roster prepares for Monday’s California Classic opener.
Edwards, along with sharpshooting forward Keegan Murray and recently-drafted guard Colby Jones, will take the floor at Golden 1 Center on Monday to face the Golden State Warriors in front of a packed house.
Edwards, who had his $1.9 million team option picked up by Sacramento on Wednesday, shared his thoughts on returning to the Kings and looked ahead to his third NBA Summer League experience.
After being acquired in a midseason trade with the Brooklyn Nets, the 22-year-old averaged 3.9 points, 2.1 rebounds per game, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 43 percent from the field and 35 percent from the three-point line over 22 appearances (three starts) with the Kings.
Edwards, who will be entering his third year out of Pepperdine, has a 6’11 wingspan and holds career averages of 13.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game on 39 percent shooting from the field over 17 appearances in the NBA G-League.
Kings head coach Mike Brown called on Edwards for challenging defensive assignments like Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards in a show of confidence in the lengthy wing, which the franchise will look to build off in the future.
The 22-year-old will look to hone his skills during Summer League alongside Jones, recent draft pick Jalen Slawson, and familiar faces Neemias Queta and Keon Ellis.
