It is unknown how many players have tested positive. Sacramento is scheduled to open its preseason on Friday.
The 2020-21 season will be played under unusual circumstances, with heightened safety restrictions, no fans and tentative scheduling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Sacramento Kings head coach, Luke Walton, multiple players have tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently quarantining under the league’s protocols.
“Before we got back into the facility and we were going through the NBA protocol, as far as the safety stuff is concerned, we had a couple of positive tests,” Walton said on Sunday afternoon. “Before we opened up, those guys were put in quarantine.”
Walton would not reveal how many players have tested positive or release any names of those affected.
Sacramento, who is currently scheduled to face the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and Sunday, conducted its first team workout on Sunday afternoon.
Portland, who has had to shut down its practice facility due to an outbreak within the organization, is currently conducting contract tracing and deep cleaning its facilities.
Friday and Sunday’s games are currently still in play, although the coming days will be pivotal in gauging how bad each outbreak is within the franchises involved.
Expect developments and updates regarding the status of Friday night’s game throughout the week.
