The veteran center is back for his second tour of duty with Sacramento

Alex Len is back.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Sacramento Kings have reached a two-year, $7.65 million agreement with Len that will run through the 2022-23 season.

Len, an eight-year NBA veteran, was acquired by Sacramento in a midseason trade with Atlanta during the 2019-20 season. The seven-foot center delivered the bench unit with a strong presence off of the bench, totaling 5.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.0 block per game on 59-percent shooting from the field over 15 appearances.

After stops in Toronto and Washington last season, the 28-year-old is back in the purple and black on a two-year commitment that will slide him into the backup center role behind incumbent starter Richaun Holmes.

Sacramento ranked 30th in defensive efficiency and 28th in opponent points per game last season. By adding Len, drafting defensive guard Davion Mitchell in the draft and re-signing Maurice Harkless and Richaun Holmes, general manager Monte McNair has bolstered the defense over the first 24 hours of free agency.

While much more work needs to be done in crafting a playoff-ready roster, McNair has done a good job of adding defense to a team that desperately needed a boost.
