Brooklyn defeats Sacramento in battle of two teams missing their star players

No Kyrie Irving or Kevin Durant. No De’Aaron Fox or Marvin Bagley III.

Friday night’s contest between the Sacramento Kings and the Brooklyn Nets was missing several big names, but it was Brooklyn who would come out on top as they defeated the Kings by a final of 116-97 at Barclays Center.

After dropping 31 points on the Phoenix Suns, Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic was held out of Friday’s game with hamstring tightness. Harrison Barnes led the Kings with 18 points, while Buddy Hield pitched in with 16 points.

Hield got Sacramento off to a good start, scoring 12 points in the first quarter to keep the Kings close heading into the second quarter. Nets guard Joe Harris would create space between the two teams however, scoring 17 points in the period to give Brooklyn a 56-49 lead heading into the half. The Nets would outscore Sacramento 60-48 through the final two quarters to seal the victory.

Harris would go on to finish with 22 points in the Brooklyn win, while Spencer Dinwiddie added 23 points and seven assists.

Sacramento struggled to shoot the three-ball, only mustering a four-for-25 performance from downtown. Due to the rotation being ravaged by injuries, Kings rookie Justin James had a strong showing with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists over 32 minutes.

If the Kings are without the services of Bogdan Bogdanovic on Sunday in Washington, expect James to get the same amount of run as the backup shooting guard.

Coming Up

Sacramento will look to get back on track this Sunday when they face All-Star guard Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards.

Tune in to Sports 1140 KHTK for all of the action, starting with pregame coverage at 2:30pm followed by tip-off at 3:00pm.
