San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa appeared in his first practice of the week Friday, setting up a true day-to-day decision on his status for Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Bosa has been dealing with a groin strain sustained in the Week 5 win against the Carolina Panthers. The injury kept the star pass rusher out most of the second half of last week’s contest, trying to play through it before he was pulled in the third quarter.
After not practicing all week, Friday’s appearance is a step in the right direction, getting the questionable designation from his head coach.
“Yeah, he looked good, but everything’s walkthrough today too, so hopefully [will get him back Sunday],” Kyle Shanahan said Friday after practice.

Bosa, 24, is an early Defensive Player of the Year candidate, tied for first in sacks at six through the first five games.
Not a lot of good news after that as both defensive tackles Arik Armstead (foot, ankle) and Javon Kinlaw (knee) will miss Week 6’s road stand against the Atlanta Falcons. Armstead has been dealing with injuries in both feet for a few weeks now, not even making the trip to West Virginia with the team. Kinlaw, on the other hand, is on the road with the 49ers, but he has not practiced consistently since feeling irritation in his surgically-repaired knee.
Cornerback Jason Verrett will also miss out on Week 6, after suffering “soreness” in the aftermath of practice Wednesday. Verrett, 33, has been on the PUP list to start the year, recovering from an ACL tear in Week 1 of the 2021 season. The team decided to shut him down Thursday and Friday. He is expected to resume practicing next Wednesday.
With a slew of injuries on the defensive side of the ball, the Red & Gold will need to rally Sunday to head back home on a three-game win streak.
“I think it’s been real good,” Kyle Shanahan said regarding practice on the road. “I think it was a tough stretch going into that Monday night game, to go across the country and then play Carolina on the short rest. I think we were real tired on Monday and Tuesday. Took us a couple days as we took it a little easier on Wednesday but you can see when we put the pads on Thursday, our guys were fired up ready to play and I had to take them off halfway through practice just to settle them down a little bit.”
A few players, in particular, have a little extra juice going into Atlanta as rookie running back Ty Davis-Price (ankle) is officially off the injury report Friday, indicating he will be back for Week 6. The rookie has been sidelined since suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks. He’ll join a rotation of Jeff Wilson Jr. and Tevin Coleman Sunday in Atlanta.
Kicker Robbie Gould (knee) is also off the injury report Friday, indicating that he will play in Week 6. Gould suffered a knee contusion after tackling Panthers kick returner, Raheem Blackshear, in Week 5. He was ruled out in the fourth quarter of that gamer.
