Former NFL fullback Lorenzo Neal joined Sactown Sports Monday to talk about the state of the NFL running back, how the San Francisco 49ers can succeed this upcoming season and more.

Neal, a California native, played 16 seasons in the NFL, with stops with the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and the Oakland Raiders. Now, he hosts a podcast about the Los Angeles Chargers.

Additional topics discussed include:

  • Playing full seasons when he was in the NFL
  • Why football players have more control today compared to when he played in the late 90s and early 2000s
  • Which 49ers quarterback is most likely to lead the team to a Super Bowl win: Brock Purdy, Trey Lance or Sam Darnold?
  • People forget that Purdy wasn’t lights out during the playoffs and more teams may know how to stop him this year
  • Why the 49ers run game “has to thrive” in order for Brock Purdy to succeed this season
