Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg joined the Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross on Friday to talk about the success of the Kings so far this season and when the city might be able to host an All-Star game of its own.

The reason why Sacramento can’t host, at least right now, is because of the lack of hotels in Downtown Sacramento.

“We are well on our way to building many more hotel rooms,” Steinberg said. “In the last couple of years, we’ve added about 700 hotel rooms, including almost 200 that are under construction right now with the AC Marriott. We are working very on building a convention center hotel because we just redid our beautiful convention center. And tourism in this city is increasing.”

Additional topics discussed include:

  • The proximity required by the NBA for hotel rooms in an All-Star city
  • Just because the MLS updates about the Sacramento Republic aren’t in the news daily, “doesn’t mean that your leaders are not working every day on securing Sacramento’s rightful place in the major league soccer world.”
